5 Reasons to Love "The Pumpkin Queen" by Shea Ernshaw

"The Nightmare Before Christmas" has been one of my favourite movies for as long as I can remember. I even had sugar gliders named Jack and Sally! Throughout the years, I heard many rumors of sequels, and was always relieved when Tim Burton would say no. I've never been a big fan of sequels, sure they are just going to ruin the franchise. Sometimes standalone films are just hard to beat! And then I saw that a sequel would be in the form of a book; and would feature Sally, the Pumpkin Queen. I was hooked, and made sure I had this book the day it came out! It took a whole two days to finish (and only that long because I had to work!) With all of that said, here are 5 reasons even the sequel sceptics will love "Long Live the Pumpkin Queen" by Shea Ernshaw.

#1 - The Cover You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but it's just so hard! The cover is the first thing you see, your first glimpse and what is inside the cover. This cover did not disappoint! One thing to be aware of when choosing your copy, there are two different covers. The standard cover is in full color, and the Barnes & Noble edition is mostly black and white (minus her red hair)! I'm pretty sure I need to get the standard cover as well. Whenever looking for Disney books, I recommend checking out Barnes & Noble. There are often exclusive editions with little extras!

#2 - The Holiday Trees and Their Towns
Whenever I've watched "The Nightmare Before Christmas," I've wondered what was behind the rest of the doors. Sure, we saw Christmas Town, but there were so many more! I just had to know what we were missing. It doesn't take long to enter at least one of these doors and find out what's their. Ernshaw did a lovely job at describing these towns, making it easy to picture them all in your head. I'm hoping some day to see some artwork with Sally in all these places!

#3 - Sally's Book of Potions, Home Remedies, and Apothecary Cures
This part of the book is another Barnes & Noble exclusive extra. Attached to the back cover, is a small book with recipes! It's small things like scrubs and perfumes, but a super cute addition! I just may have to try some and post them on social media!

#4 - The Sandman
I don't want to give any spoilers, so I won't say much here. Going into this book, I hadn't even considered who or what the villain of this story would be. It turns out to be the Sandman, and he's fantastic. That's all I'm going to say, you'll just have to read the book to find out for yourself.

#5 - Sally's Past & Her Journey Towards Feeling Like the Pumpkin Queen
I was so tempted to end this review with "the ending," because it's true. The ending is great! But it's so much more than that. You can't have the ending without the beginning, and everything in the middle. So much of this book and how Sally felt was relatable. Sometimes things just don't feel like you. Sometimes you may feel lost. Sally covers these feelings, and we get to see into her past. Her past takes us on a journey, continuing into the present until we see Sally embrace being The Pumpkin Queen. It's 1000% a journey worth reading about.
I tried to keep this spoiler free, since I know how much I hate spoilers!
